NOMAD Data Levels

Level 0.1 - General, low level data SO and LNO corrections and splitting observations into separate files

Level 0.1A

Raw HDF5, directly translated from corrected binary files (not to be used by science team)

Level 0.1C

SO, LNO and UVIS HDF5 files converted into the correct starting format. Housekeeping converted to physical units; all science data in ADUs with exponent implemented; no geometry. Global attributes added to files; units and data types added as dataset attributes.

From this level, each dataset contains all file attributes and dataset groups except geometry. See the list of parameters included in the HDF5 files for more information (accessible from the FAQ page here)



Level 0.1D

SO and LNO normal science observations split into 1 file per diffraction order; observation type letter and diffraction order number added to filename.

Level 0.1E

Vertical binning of LNO nadir data; SO and LNO bad pixel interpolation and non-linearity correction (ongoing)



Level 0.2 - Addition of extra datasets e.g. SPICE kernels for geometry

Level 0.2A

Geometry added to all channels for nadir and occultation science observations.

Point geometries variable depending on the file - SO occultation and LNO nadir contain 5 points (FOV centre plus 4 corners of rectangular FOV); UVIS nadir contains 9 points (FOV centre plus octagon around circular FOV)

Level 0.3 - Instrument calibration and error analysis; UVIS main pipeline

Level 0.3A

SO and LNO temperature-dependent spectral calibration and addition of all calibration coefficients to data files.

No change to UVIS

Level 0.3B

SO and LNO data, and UVIS full frame data, are unmodified.

UVIS dynamic range correction applied to vertically binned data.

UVIS empty data rows (used only for storing full frame data) are removed from vertically binned data.

Level 0.3C

UVIS dark current subtraction

Level 0.3D

UVIS spectral calibration

Level 0.3E (TBD)

UVIS detector corrections e.g. non-linearity, cosmic ray detection, etc.

Level 0.3F

UVIS conversion to radiance; straylight correction applied (when ready)



Level 1.0 - Calibrated data

Level 1.0A

SO conversion to transmittance; LNO conversion to radiance. Merging of UVIS and infrared pipelines

Conversion of science observations (E, I, D, N, U, V) to PDS4 data products
